A 9 year old boy attended after falling over doing a hand stand in a school PE lesson. He said his hands gave way and he fell down, banging his left foot on the ground. His Dad came to pick him up from school and said that the foot was massively swollen.

You have a look at the foot and agree that it does look very swollen indeed over the mid and forefoot. He is unable to weight bear on the foot and winces when you try and examine it.
